Great post, a design’s value should be in direct correlation to the experience it provides. No easy task for sure, but it needs to be on your radar as a designer of anything to any degree.

Most of these indicators are actually on the screen for just seconds, but that is sufficient time to quiet a user’s doubts and ensure they know things are working. It feels great to click through the app and always feel like you know what’s happening, that things are working.
Really getting into designing experiences for mobile and in true 37 Signals fashion this post is full of live examples with tons of quality insight. I’ve learned that speed and responsiveness are 2 very different components of design with responsiveness being the one you have considerably more control of. This post definitely illustrates that philosophy.

To be truly great, we have to understand the motivation of our clients, maintain constant two-way communication with shockingly uncreative people, get a firm handle on copywriting and how that craft exists symbiotically with the visual element, and foresee how the finished whole will be greater than the sum of the bits and pieces we spent hours obsessing over. All of these factors cascade into the final product.
